History: Deryck was born during 9:11 Dragon in Amaranthine, Ferelden, to Yvana and Edmond Hæle. He is the oldest of five siblings. He helped raise them even from a young age. He met his first love, Valeera, when he was thirteen years old. They spent every waking moment together. She was attacked by thugs on her way home from visiting him and killed when Deryck was 17. He had just asked for her hand in marriage when they both came of age. He began training as swordsman after that, not willing to lose anyone else ever again. When he was 20, the Darkspawn Civil War broke out between The Architect and The Mother. He aided Warden-Commander Lillith Cousland, but his absence led the deaths of his mother, father, and four younger siblings. At this point he joined the Templars, needing to find purpose in his life again. He remained with them until the Templars segregated from the Chantry to purge the mages. His intentions had always been to protect the mages. He defended them from the other Templars, eventually making his way to Haven to join the Inquisition, gladly joining Cullen and his fellow Templars in aiding the Inquisitor in their efforts.
